What’s Creation Project?
The short answer is everything. Keep reading for the long answer.
The Imperfection of Creation
Creation project is the purposeful unfolding of the world as we know it, from the beginning to God’s appointed end. British theologian Colin Gunton first coined the phrase “creation is a project” in his book The Triune Creator. He described the original creation as imperfect, an idea borrowed from St. Irenaeus. Gunton avers that the imperfect creation has always been destined for perfection, filled with meaning on a glorious trajectory.
Creation is a project. As created, it is perfect because it is God’s project…But it is not perfect in the sense of complete. It has somewhere to go…
God did not simply create and step back, intervening only to rescue souls from a dilapidated universe. Rather, he creates with personal investment, participates at personal cost, and consummates his project with great joy and glory—an entirely renewed cosmos. Everything matters. It matters because God made it and is guiding it to a better future.
Participating in the Creation Project
This blog explores just about everything from the Creator’s perspective. You’ll find reflections on topics as diverse as evolutionary biology and church planting. If this world is going somewhere, what we think about it and how we treat it matter, not as an intellectual exercise but as an act of devotion. In his grace, God calls us to join the trajectory of creation. To see everything as he sees it, through his Son, with his people, on his mission. To explore everything as an act of devotion in Christ, with the church, in our culture.
I invite you to join me in a this act of devotion—engaging everything through Christ, church, and culture.
