Reading the Bible as One Story

Michael Goheen, co-author of The Drama of Scripture, has posted his manuscript from an address at Regent College on “The Urgency of Reading the Bible as One Story in the 21st Century.

He makes an excellent case for keeping the meta-story of Scripture in view not just our reading but also our living. Goheen argues that the narrative of the Bible, in all its unity and diversity, establishes a sound basis for Scriptural authority despite postmodern power critiques. He further argues that reading the Bible as one story inevitably produces a disciple of Christ with a missional identity who lives with cultural integrity. Feel free to comment on it here.

Preaching on Work: A Gospel-centered Perspective

How should we work? Are Christian perspectives on work actually hijacking the gospel? What bent motivations are making our work self-centered instead of gospel-centered? These are a few of the questions we will try to answer this weekend when I will be preaching on “Work: A Gospel-centered Perspective” at Marshall Ford Fellowship. I will be tackling the topic by addressing the manner, master(s) and motives for our work in this world. I would appreciate your prayers.

World Economic Forum 2007

The World Economic Forum starts in Switzerland tomorrow. Their stated purpose is as follows: The World Economic Forum is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging leaders in partnerships to shape global, regional and industry agendas.” Issues of global proportions will be considered such as trade, poverty, political corruption, clean water, global warming, etc.

The important theme of the five-day Forum is “Shaping the Global Agenda: The Shifting Power Equation”. What value do you think this large scale meeting has? What impact should Christians have in such issues? Does anyone know much about this meeting?
