Book Recommendations: God's Will, Suffering, & Apologetics

I’ve found myself recommending a number of good books to people recently. The fact is that we can glean a lot of wisdom and encouragement from authors who have walked in our shoes and done so very thoughtfully. On these topics, the shoe fits!

Step by Step: Decision Making and the Will of God

Becoming A Dad: An Emotional, Spiritual, Practical Guide (on sale for $5.53!)

Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism

Suffering and the Sovereignty of God (free online)

Steve Timmis on Parachurch

I know saying this isn’t going to win me any friends, but someone has to tell the king he’s naked. Is it not a quiet madness for churches to largely outsource their discipleship (to parachurch agencies) and training (to theological colleges)? The best context for both discipleship and training is the people of God on mission (a.k.a. church).

Read the rest here and Neil Cole on parachurch here.

Austin: Doug Burr, Gingerman, Mardi Gras

Fat Tuesday brought a slew of people out to 6th street as Mardi Gras celebrants partied well into the night. There were the usual beads, exposures, and costumes. Plenty of police on hand to ensure saftey. A look alike Johnny Dep was spotted. Se more here.

Doug Burr plays Antone’s tonight. He’s very good live.

Gingerman is moving to make room for a mixed-use Gables building. How sad. At least they are reopening just down the street.
