Music, Food, & Film in Austin

Last week was an unusually entertainment-filled week.

  • I had a sonic baptism while listening to Helio Sequence @ Mohawk (great, three-level outdoor venue) with five great guys from Austin City Life. Helio Sequence records half the tracks before a concert, while  Benjamin (former drummer for Modest Mouse) plays drums and Brandon leads guitar and vocals live. Great sound. Outstanding drummer. His kinetic drumming is better than a light show, a “feel” drummer for sure! Read review here.
  • Saw Wolverine and Defiance, both of which provided some good theological insights and good entertainment. Wolverine was mainly fun, but provided a good baptism illustration for Sunday’s sermon.
  • Got Jakob Dylan’s Seeing Things, a well-written solo album that explores everything from good to evil.
  • Had a wonderful time with my wife a Botticelli‘s. The Beer Garden is so romantic, low lit, cool.
