Austin City Life Worship

I’m excited to announce the June 28 release of Austin City Life’s first worship cd One. You can preview the tracks at our ACL MySpace. The mp3s and chord charts will be available around June 28, (perhaps sooner). Keep an eye on the usual places: iTunes, CD Baby, Rhapsody, Noise Trade, and so on. You never know when stuff will leak out 🙂

The EP is a product of worship from a community for a community. Each of our three worship leaders have contributed to this 6 song album, drawing on their unique gifts and artistry to produce songs that don’t quite fit within the usual worship stream. Some of the distinctives include:

  • City focused
  • Gospel-centered
  • Martin Luther on the Spirit
  • High Colossian Christology
  • Ancient hymns to progressive tunes
  • Reflective worship that builds and crescendos
  • Integration of Gospel, Community, and Mission in the song writing

I hope you are compelled to worship  God in all of life through the power of his Spirit in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ through this music. May we lift our voices and our hearts in Christ-cherishing praise all our days.

ONE EP: Gospel-centered Worship

Austin City Life musicians have written some remarkable songs over the past 12 months. Now, after singing them and experiencing the transforming presence of God through them, we are excited to announce that our first EP, ONE, is coming out.

The album includes:

  • Songs that focus on Gospel, Community, and Mission
  • A Martin Luther hymn re-write on the Holy Spirit
  • Colossians 1:15-20 to progressive, soul-stirring music

New Gospel-centered Worship Songs

I’ve posted on Andy Melvin’s Human Engine Waits album before. Due to the album’s depth and creativity, we our church decided to do a three song/sermon series on it. We’ve worked all of these songs into our worship “canon,” which has been a delight. The sermon audio and manuscripts can be found here.

Similarly, our very own Nate Navarro has written a number of tunes that bring the gospel, mission, and community together like few, if any songs do. We sang “Community Song” again today, which has become a Austin City Life stirring standby. Here are the lyrics:

we’re a community of the broken, your love is changing us, your love is here
the love of Christ can heal the broken, bring us together and wipe away our tears

we’re a community of the forgiven, the past is gone and today is here
the love of Christ can offer forgiveness, heal our hearts and redeem our wasted years

hallelujah God is with us
hallelujah grace is here

we’re a community who wants to love you, love our neighbors, let your love shine
the love of Christ can change this city if it can change a broken heart like mine
