This short post on Driscoll’s experience with the ABC Nightline crew is a great snapshot into the life of a leader who understands idols, embraces Jesus intelligently, and loves his city.

Mission to Uganda
Austin City Life is sending a team of five to Uganda tomorrow. We will be training church planters and working with orphans and street kids. Although some of us have traveled quite a bit, none of us have been to Africa, much less Uganda. We expect to learn a lot from the kids and the adults, Christians and pastors. We also hope to forge a long-term partnership with an orphanage and church there. We also have partners here in the U.S.:
We are partnering with Acts 29 on the field by connecting with J.D. Senkbile, Africa Director for Acts 29. The international mission of Acts 29 is expanding significantly. We are glad we get to be a part of this very important part of God’s Mission.
We are partnering with DGM to take theological resources to under-trained pastors in rural areas. DGM generously donated about 600 books.
I serve on the board of H.E.L.P. and we hope to partner with them to promote long-term orphan care.
Austin City Life Baptism
On Saturday we had our first church baptism. Baptism is an act of obedience that symbolizes faith in Jesus as Christ and Lord. It is a public declaration of repentance from false lords and faith in Jesus gracious, sovereign lordship. We wanted our public declaration of Jesus as Lord to be in a public place, so we chose Barton Springs in Austin.
It was about 100 degrees, the springs were packed with people “keeping Austin wierd.” Topless women, pot-smoking hippies, dogs and dog owners, families, and right in the middle of it all—people being baptized proclaiming their faith in Jesus as Christ and Lord!
It was a great joy to baptise Kristin and Chris, to celebrate the gift of new life in Christ together! We followed the baptism with a time of prayer and singing. Afterwards, we had a big church cookout, played games, and just enjoyed one another.
More reflections on the baptism here.
Partnership Booklet
In preparation for our Partners Class this weekend, we have created an abridged version of the class in booklet form. This booklet will hopefully be a good reference for our Partners to press deeper into Gospel, Community, and Mission as we partner together on the mission of Christ.
This is booklet already needs revisions, but I thought I’d put it up in case someone was interested.
